Janet has had a lifelong love affair with animals, particularly dogs and horses. Because a member of her family had an allergy, she grew up without the pleasure of a dog in the house. Because of this you could often find her at one of the neighbour’s playing with one of their animals. Janet did end up getting a horse as a teenager because it couldn’t live with her....after that, she spent a lot of time at the farm with horses, dogs and cows. The experiences allowed her to become very comfortable around animals.
When the chance to get a family dog arose, it was a fantastic experience for the entire family. Her two children have been lucky enough to know what it is like to grow up with an extra member of the family to care for and love. She realized though that their dog Matteo was not human and needed to be treated differently than the other family members. It was important that he knew his place in the family so there could be peace and harmony with all of them. Boundaries were quickly set up and he was made to abide by our rules and boundaries. Janet believes it is very important to establish the proper rank structure in the “pack”, so that your dog looks to you for leadership and looks to you with love and respect.
These same boundaries have been set up for their new pup Joey, and he resides with them as a very happy member of the family, and also has the same boundaries as Matt had. The key is to be firm, be fair and be consistent.
Janet is a graduate of Carleton University with a B.A. in Mass Communications and has enjoyed a varied career throughout her adult life but she has never been able to find her true passion until now. With a love of animals, and dogs in particular, she decided it was time to do something she loved. Hence, she found herself in a class with an amazing trainer with an unbelievable background in dog training. She jumped in with both feet and has endeavoured to learn as much as she could about dog behaviour, dog psychology as well as how our behaviour affects our pets and has finally found her true passion.
After graduating from the Canadian Canine Academy as a certified professional dog trainer, she found the experience was amazing and is very excited to share this information with other dog owners.
